01 / THE STORYReports that need building before they answer anything.
Heins Contracting runs a busy production schedule, roughly 20 to 30 projects a day, with jobs tracked in AccuLynx. The company already pays for custom reporting there. Even so, getting a specific answer means building a custom report, and the result does not always come out right.
02 / THE STORYA live question and a filter worth fixing.
In an early-access session, the XBuild team asked the Operator how many jobs had closed over a recent window and what margins looked like. The first pass counted jobs by the wrong date, because the question had not separated when a job was created from when it closed.
With that clarified in the conversation, the Operator reran the query on closing dates and reported 224 closed jobs between August 13 and October 12. Heins said the number made sense. Catching the filter live is part of the value. The logic is visible, so the people who know the business can steer it until the answer is right.
03 / THE STORYEstimated margin and job profit are different numbers.
The Operator also reported an average margin for those jobs, and it was explicit about the source. AccuLynx stores the price and cost written into each job's estimate at the time it was created. It does not share actual job cost through the connection, so any margin built from that data is an estimated margin.
The distinction matters. Estimated margin shows what a job was priced to make. Actual profit depends on what materials, labor and changes really cost once the work is done. Heins drew the same line in the session, separating estimated profit from real profit, and the XBuild team suggested exporting AccuLynx's own profit analysis for comparison.
04 / THE STORYWhere actual costs could come in.
XBuild's CRM tracks budgeted margins against actual costs as supplier bills, labor and payments are recorded, with profit broken out by trade. Heins discussed uploading bulk CSV exports of supplier bills to keep those costs current. If that cost data is brought in, the same plain question about closed jobs could be answered with real profit.
